Applications
In some situations it is necessary to connect terminals without a connection to the protection devices or other elements to each other (possibly switched). Some examples are external devices that provide a potential, e.g. motorized locks, garden gates or awnings.

Another example is external potentials that you want to record with a binary input (or that are to be routed to a coil of a relay).

Other examples include smoke detector terminals that are connected to network the smoke detectors with each other (here 3/4, 7/8, 11/12).

Configuration in the program
The function for potential-free contacts is integrated in the planning tree under “Direct connectors”. A separate direct connector must be created for each potential-free terminal connection (whether switched, measured or not).
The following steps must be performed:
- Create a terminal block that provides switched external potentials
- Create a switch actuator to have the desired switching channels available
- Create a direct connector to be able to flexibly connect the desired terminals
- Select the “Select potential-free terminals” option in the direct connector

A selection window will now appear showing you all terminal blocks and their terminals. Select the desired wires that are to be connected to each other:

The wires will now be displayed in the configuration of the direct connector and can be configured further. After selecting the terminals without further configuration, these terminals are assigned a simple connection / terminal bridge in the diagram.
To link a switched connection (or binary input or relay coil), click on the [+] symbol. You will already be familiar with the assignment dialog that appears from the terminal blocks.

Once you have made your selection, you can also use the arrows to configure the logical flow direction of the current. This is then shown in the diagram with small arrows on the terminals, making it easier to see which terminal actually provides the potential.

If you jump back to the terminal block configuration, you will see that the terminals are connected to the direct connector. The direct connector is displayed as a link, so you can always quickly jump to the direct connector (and back) to make the desired changes.
